CONVENER of RevolutionNow protest, publisher of SaharaReporters and Presidential aspirant of African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 elections Omoyele Sowore has been arrested by security operatives believed to be from the Department of Security Services (DSS).
He was arrested at 1:25 am Saturday in his house.
Sowore was coordinating a national protest against the government of Buhari over the maladministration and insecurity in the country.
He had promised to “shutdown” the country on the day of the protest – which he claims would hold simultaneously across the cities of the country.
The nationwide protest is to hold on Monday August 5.
The coordinators of the RevolutionNow protest claim to have already gotten 21 cities in Nigeria to sign up for the protest. And the social media had been awash with video recordings by notable Nigerian musicians have come out in support of the protest.
Sowore posted a distress tweet at exactly 1:25 am just before his phone was confiscated from him
“He also tweeted ” Ja p”, confirming his phone must have been seized while trying to raise the alarm about his arrest.
“His arrest and detention are not unconnected to #RevolutionNow, a series of planned protests against bad governance in Nigeria scheduled for August 5, 2019,” a source close to him said in a statement.
