SOME 30 members of the Nigerian senate are currently in a meeting with the Director General of the Department of State Services.
According to a source at the meeting who sent messages to Elendu Reports, the meeting is aimed at perfecting a plan to impeach Bukola Saraki, the Senate President and Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy Senate President later today.
It is believed that the Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan will replace Saraki while former member of PDP from Imo State, Hope Uzodinma will replace Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President.
It will be recalled that Saraki decamped from the ruling All Progressives Congress last week soon after the Senate adjourned seating until September 25.
The Senate was shaken last week when 15 senators from the ruling APC decamped on the floor of the Senate.
The Senate
The Senate President was suspected of complicity in the move to PDP by the 15 senators. A few days after the move, the executive of the APC in Senator Saraki’s home state of Kwara was dissolved.
This direct affront to the Senate president is believed to have been the last straw that made him decamp to PDP.
Elendu Reports is yet to independently confirm this meeting.
The Senate President on Monday was reported to have convened a meeting of the leaderships of the two chambers of the National Assembly which will also hold Tuesday afternoon.
It was not clear if part of the reasons the meeting was called was to avert the looming impeachment move by the APC senators.
