Pastor, Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, on Sunday narrated how God helped him to successfully lead the church for the past forty years since he was ordained as the general overseer of the church.
He made the revelation on Sunday at the special prayer session for firstborns and their families as well as service to commemorate his 40th anniversary as the General Overseer.
Speaking on his 40 years journey as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Adeboye thanked God for how he has been helping him.
“I want to thank God for what He has done for the past 40-years and as the saying goes, Life is just beginning for me and my wife.
The Revered man of God also poured encomium on his wife for supporting him on the journey. God gave me the best woman in the world and if your wife is better than mine, that means she is not a human being. God knows I wouldn’t have been able to do this work without my wife.
“I also want to thank God for my father in the Lord, Pa Josiah Akindayomi, he was a man that truly hears God, he was not just one of those Apostles, he was great and if he didn’t hear from God, I won’t be here.
“The covenant God gave him is what we are still executing in RCCG till today. We had a good head who had a covenant with God.
“ I became a pastor in RCCG just two years after I joined the church and I am the least qualified among those people who could become the General overseer then.
“When we were told that I will become a pastor, my wife and I fasted for fourteen days, praying that God will not make it happen. In those days nobody wants to become a Pastor in RCCG, those days because to become a pastor is to be sentenced to a life of poverty and I had known poverty for the first eighteen years of my life with no shoes. After I had struggled to become a lecturer, someone wants me to go back to that level but God didn’t answer that prayer and thank God for not answering the prayer.
Adeboye added: “When my father in the Lord told me I was going to succeed him, I told him it’s not going to happen. But he said something that broke my heart, he said: “He loves me”. I was broken because I knew I could not disappoint the one who loves me.
I didn’t know theology, yet he choose me, I never went to Bible College, but I listened to God always and He talks to me.
“As for those who asked why I live a humble lifestyle, I do share a story of how God once asked me to draw a figure of a man after which he asked me to wipe it off, then he said, son, if you ever forget who is in charge, I will wipe you out just as you wipe out the image, so when people ask me how can you be humble considering all the achievements, and all that God has done for you, I simply told them that I don’t want to be wiped out.
“God has told me that RCCG belongs to him and He can take care of His own.
Few years after I became the General Overseer, I started noticing strands of grey hair on my head and I told God about it, he said I was the one worrying myself since then, I left everything to him and for those who don’t understand why I am being blessed and finding everything easy, it’s because I surrender all to God who is my source,” he said.
He, however, stated, “I never preach denomination, I only preach Jesus but I am thanking God for those of you who decided or those of you who may decide to join RCCG.”
Asking Christians to steer clear of the sermon of ‘once saved forever saved’ he reiterated that individuals strive to live holy and cultivate the habit of hearing from God.
