President Muhammadu Buhari has removed Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector General of Police.
In his place, Usman Alkali Baba, a Deputy Inspector General of Police has been appointed as the new Inspector General of Police.
Maigari Dingyadi, the Minister of Police Affairs, disclosed this to the State House Correspondents on Tuesday.
Sources at the presidency said this followed the attack by IPOB members on the police headquarters in Owerri, Imo State on Monday.
It was believed that the separatists gained access to the police armoury in the police headquarters during the attack and carted away arms and ammunition.
Adamu who was until this afternoon enjoying the extension of his term of office was reported to have visited Owerri Tuesday morning and issued an order for the police to go after the attackers.
