PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday signed the peace accord to ensure a violence free 2019 general elections.
At the signing ceremony which took place at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, was absent alongside presidential candidates of other parties.
Buhari, who is the presidential candidate for the APC, signed the peace accord at 4.27pm alongside the national chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Also, the National Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus, was not on ground at the venue.
Other key presidential candidates that were absent include Donald Duke – Social Democratic Party, (SDP), Omoyele Sowore – African Action Congress (AAC) and Obi Ezekwesili – Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN).
The peace accord was initiated by the National Peace Committee (NPC) led by a former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
It was signed in 2014 as the country prepared for the 2015 elections under former president Goodluck Jonathan.
