There was pandemonium in the early hours of Tuesday as hoodlums broke into the premises of the National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC ) orientation camp in Kubwa, Abuja in search of COVID-19 palliatives.
Immediately security agents got wind of the information, armed policemen, and soldiers came to the scene firing teargas to disperse the hoodlums.
Two Airforce helicopters were also seen hovering round the area to frustrate the looting spree.
The thugs had in the early hours of Tuesday, gathered in front of the camp with the intention of breaking into the camp facility to loot food items allegedly stockpiled in a warehouse within the premises.
But their plans were foiled when armed policemen and soldiers were deployed to the area.
They were seen barricading the roads with their patrol vehicle, a situation that halted the looting.
The chaotic situation brought about fears, forcing shop owners in the popular ‘Kubwa Market’ close to the camp to lock up their shops, in order to avoid vandalism.
As of time of filing this report, there was still tension in the area as hoodlums were still loitering around the camp planning to force their way in.
