A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday found a former Governor of Abia State, Uzor Kalu, guilty of 39 counts of fraud.
The former governor who is now a serving senator and a principal officer in the 9th Senate was charged with N7.1bn fraud. Slok Nig. Ltd., his company was also a defendant in the suit.
Justice Mohammed Idris whp gave the ruling sentenced Kalu to 12 years’ imprisonment while he ordered the winding up of Kalu’s company, Slok Nigeria Limited, charged as third defendant in the case.
He was charged alongside Jones Udeogo, the state Commissioner for Finance during his tenure as the governor.
While Kalu and his company were convicted on all the 39 counts of the fraud charge, Udeogo was found guilty of 34 counts.
