Anambra electorate, by overwhelming majority have chosen incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano for a second and final term.

While there was no significant incident of violent during the election, the Commission also cancelled less than 5000 votes in an election won by Obiano in all the 21 local government areas of the state with a total of about 234,071 votes.
The front runners in the election included Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the President’s party, Henry Obaze, a former Secretary to the Government of Anambra State , Osita Chidoka , the youthfuk and characteristic former minister of Aviation who is believed to have won the governorship debate few days ago.
At the polls, Nwoye, the candidate of APC trailed Obiano from behind while Obaze of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) emerged third just as Chidoka of United Progressives Party, (UPP) came a distant fourth.
Chuks Nwoga, APGA National Youth Leader, has described the election as being free and fair.
“It was a peaceful process even in the face of threats by the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), to the people of Anambra to boycott the election though there were few cases of violence. INEC did a good job, you can’t get a completely perfect process. In some places material didn’t come on time but the election is fair,” Nwoga said.
“People came out to vote even with this IPOB threats, there was no case of low turnout of voters, the election was okay. You don’t expect 100 per cent to come out but the turnout was impressive”, he said.
The UPP candidate, Chidoka, has already conceded defeat, saying he lost to superior financial power.
A total of 37 candidates contested the election and that makes it highest number of governorship candidates ever recorded in any state in Nigeria.
