Committee For Defence Of Human Rights (CDHR) has said that the emergence of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States of America has given credence to the fact that sovereignty in a democratic government belongs to the people.
While congratulating the former vice president and the first female vice president, Kamala Harris, and the American people for a successful election, in spite of the stress, Osagie Obayuwana, national president of the rights group said that the will of American people prevailed, no matter the margin. We would want to reiterate the fact that this victory is not for Americans alone but for the generality of mankind.
He charged President Donald Trump to cease being a sore loser but reflect deeply and show greater respect for public opinion.
The CDHR helmsman urged Biden to also learn from the experience Americans have gone through and deliver on the mandate given to him for the good of the people.
Obayuwana said, “We congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and we hope that they would learn from the experiences Americans have gone through. Nigeria as a country at the moment is under stress in our quest for equality and justice.
There is merit in the struggle for equality and justice for different nationals, struggle for equality for the youths. We hope that the incoming President would align with this struggle. We hope to find support for Nigerians for justice, accountability for all those citizens unjustly treated.”
