Former Vice President and perennial presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will announce ADC as his new party on Monday, 19th May, 2025, in Abuja.
Abubakar, who was Vice-President to Olusegun Obasanjo, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contested for president on the platform of Action Congress Congress (ACN) in 2007.
In 2023 he contested for President on the platform of PDP. He came second while his former running mate, Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC won the election.
A usually reliable source told Elendureports, “an avalanche of APC and PDP defectors will move to ADC on Wednesday 21st, May and nothing will be the same after.”
Former Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2019 elections and Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi will declare his intention to contest the presidency in 2027 soon after Atiku’s declaration.
There are speculations that he may run on the platform of Labour Party or Zenith Labour Party.
Atiku Abubakar and Pres. Bola Ahmed Tinubu are long time friends and political allies. Tinubu was the leader of the ACN which Atiku contested with in 2007.
It was said that Bola Tinubu put together the ACN to provide Atiku a platform to contest the 2007 election to spite their then common enemy, Pres. Olusegun Obasanjo.
This reporter was one of the two non leaders of the ACN at the ‘after launch’ party at the Lagos House, Abuja and witnessed the close friendship between Tinubu and Atiku.
With Atiku Abubakar joining ADC, the leadership of the party will change.
There are indications that the current National Chairman, Okey Nwosu, will make way for former IGP Abubakar.
A former senator from Imo State is being positioned to take the position of National Secretary of the ADC.
