Abdurraaman Adamu, the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Federal University Gusau (FUG) escaped being abducted by a gang of bandits that attacked his residence in Gusau, Zamfara State.
However, five members of his family were taken away by the bandits who invaded his residence Tuesday night.
A staff of FUG who works in the Bursery Department was also abducted during the attack.
A family source who spoke to our correspondent said that the ASUU Chairman managed to escape through one of the exits in his residence after noticing his house had been invaded by armed gang.
“The armed bandits were on a mission to abduct the ASUU chairman but he managed to escape and they succeeded in abducting five of his family members,” the source said
Umar Usman, the Information Officer of FUG, confirmed the incident.
Usman said that five family members of the ASUU Chairman and a staff in the Bursary department were abducted.
The bandits have not reached out to the institution on their demands as of the time of filing this report.
Attacks and kidnappings by bandits have been on the rise in Zamfara State in the last two years. Many including school children have been kidnapped in the state.
