Justin Nnoli-Amaechi, the Governorship candidate of National Unity Party (NUP) has advised Anambra youths against being used as political thugs during the November 18 governorship election in the state.
Nnoli-Amaechi gave the advice during his state-wide campaign flag off at Adazi-ani in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra on Sunday.
He said some overzealous politicians with negative motive to defraud the state and perceive the contest as a do or die affair are out to engage youths as thugs and as well out to commit billions of naira to induce voters.
The NUP gubernatorial candidate noted that the challenge Anambra is facing today is not necessarily that of lack of vision or leaders, but the will for leaders to remain selfless in driving the vision to transform the state.
“Most frightening and regrettable is the speed in which some political leaders sacrifice moral probity and financial decency to the whims and caprices of corruption, bad governance and befuddled vision.
“It is shameful and disheartening to see a state like Anambra so abundantly blessed with both human and natural resources reeling under such a humiliating level of want, deprivation, and excruciating poverty’’, he said.
He called on the people to come out strong and vote against contestants who do not mean well for the state.
Nnoli-Amaechi who appealed to his supporters to massively vote for him in the Nov.18 governorship election, assured that if elected, he would tackle the development of Anambra under five pillars.
“The NUP under my leadership will ensure that our five pillar-policy of; quality and affordable healthcare, education, agriculture, human capital development and industrialization are religiously and vigorously implemented’’, he promised.
He noted that his mission as captured in his address tagged `Liberation Mandate’ was to salvage the state from years of socio-economic and political retrogression and put it on a solid foundation of all-sector growth.
Ifeanyi Nweke, a national official of NUP who handed over the party’s flag to Nnoli-Amaechi said the party is happy with the pedigree of its candidate in the November 18 election in Anambra.
“Our resolve as a party is that anybody that will fly our party’s flag must be a grassroots person who is known from his root and it is to justify this that Adazi-Ani was selected as the venue for today’s event.
“As a party, we are indeed happy with the testimonies of philanthropic life of Nnoli-Amaechi as a private man in his area, if he could do all that were said with his person wealth, Anambra state will live to tell a positive story in him as a governor’’, he said.
Ifeanyi Egwuonwu, the Anambra State chairman of NUP said Nnoli-Amaechi’s choice was informed by his track records, noting that a lot of indigenes have benefited from his scholarship scheme among other gestures.
