Phillip Aduda, the Senate Minority Leader, has said the caucus is giving President Muhammadu Buhari a six-week ultimatum to address the security crisis in the country.
Aduda, who led the minority caucus in a walk-out of the Senate plenary on Wednesday, said they would commence impeachment proceedings against the president if he failed to address the security crisis.
This follows the degenerating security situation across the country, and the recent security breaches in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Terrorists had attacked Kuje minimum prison earlier this month and facilitated the escape of terrorists in the custody of other inmates.
There has also been a reported attack on the Guards Brigade patrol team in the Bwari axis of Abuja, during which three military officers were reportedly killed.
On Monday, the Federal Government directed all the Federal Colleges known as Unity Schools in Abuja to close following security threats. All schools in Abuja have also been asked to close.
