Tunde Adeniran, a former Minister of Education, has condemned the anti corruption war of the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, saying that it is not genuine and thorough.
Adeniran who is also a chairmanship aspirant for the position of national chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) disclosed this in an interview with Elendu Reports.
He noted that fighting corruption was a good proposition and policy, but stressed that it has to be done correctly, properly and judiciously in such a way that the right thing is done at the right time.
Adeniran pointed out that you don’t pursue this type of goal by chasing shadows and by being selective.
His words: ”it has been one of the misfortunes of this country that sometimes when we want to do he right thing, we do the wrong thing. Fighting corruption is a good proposition and policy but then you have to do it correctly, properly and judiciously in such a way that you do the right thing at the right time, you don’t pursue this type of goal by chasing shadows and by being selective.
“It is unfortunate because when it gets to a point whereby people lose confidence in what you are doing based on the fact that there is no thoroughness or genuineness, then of-course imposes a problem.
“I believe that we should fight corruption because it is bad for our system, individuals and bad for the country. No society or country can grow without being debilitated if corruption is not curbed. So, I believe it is a fight that is necessary, it should be properly done, we shouldn’t be selective about it, we shouldn’t turn it into a form of witch hunting.
“The way it is being done presently, people are bound to lose confidence in it. In fact some people ridicule some of the attempts that are ongoing because they just see these things as running after the members of the opposition party.
“Nigerians are not fools, they know what is going on, they know what is happening in the past and what is happening now and they know that if we have to fight corruption genuinely, thoroughly and with patriotism, you will even start from members of APC itself.
“There are people that were nearly alleged are corrupt who are being treated as if they are saints simply because they are part and parcel of the present administration and that is not good for the country.
“It is an issue that deserve to be taken up, it is a matter of conscience, it is a moral issue and it is an issue that calls on the highest level of patriotism,” he added.
