Adeleke set to retain Osun governorship as INEC results Show 80,000-vote lead

Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun and candidate of the Accord is on course to retain the state governorship seat following results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from the 30 LGAs of the state.

Adeleke has established a lead of more than 80,000 votes over his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), based on results uploaded to INEC’s result viewing portal (IReV).

The figures showed that Adeleke was leading in 21 local government areas, while Oyebamiji was ahead in nine.

As of 2:06am on Sunday, results from 3,612 of the state’s 3,763 polling units had been uploaded to IReV, representing 95.99 percent of the total polling units.

Adeleke had secured 509,057 votes, representing 51.7 percent of the votes recorded on the portal, while Oyebamiji had polled 425,879 votes, representing 43.2 percent.

The difference between the two leading candidates stood at 83,178 votes at that stage of the collation.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was a distant third with 17,393 votes, representing 1.8 percent.

With results from 151 polling units yet to be uploaded, the figures remain provisional and subject to the completion of the collation process.

INEC is expected to formally declare the winner after the final results from all polling units have been collated and announced.

The election was held across the state on Saturday, with voters casting their ballots to elect the governor who will administer Osun for the next four years.
