Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation has resigned his appointment in line with directives from President Muhammadu Buhari to political aspirants in his cabinet.
According to a source who witnessed the resignation, Amaechi resigned at about 11.10am today.
The former Rivers state governor is contesting for the presidential ticket of his party, APC in a very crowded field.
Amaechi was Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007. He became governor of Rivers State in 2007 in very controversial circumstances and won reelection by a landslide four years later.
He was Director General of the Buhari presidential campaign in 2015 and 2019.
Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi will turn 57 on May 27th.
