Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President and presidential candidate of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election has announced Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State as his running mate.
“I am delighted to announce Governor Okowa as my Vice Presidential candidate. I look forward to travelling our great country together, engaging with all Nigerians and building a shared future of peace, unity, and prosperity for all. As One We Can Get It Done,” he said
Atiku unveiled Okowa in Abuja on Thursday at a well-attended event that took place at the Wadata House, headquarters of PDP.
The choice of Okowa has laid to rest, the speculation that Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State would be picked as Atiku’s running mate.
The former vice president would be squaring up with Bola Tinunu, a former governor of Lagos State and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
Tinubu is yet to announce his running mate, there are speculations that he may name a Muslim as his running mate.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has cautioned both the APC and PDP against Christian/Christian or Muslim/Muslim tickets citing the unity of Nigeria.
